While adoption can be a difficult decision, many women find that it can provide the type of life they want for their child. And, contrary to popular belief, choosing adoption does not necessarily mean that you’ll never see your child again. Many of today’s adoptions allow you to play an active role in your child’s life, even if someone else is raising him or her.
If you feel that raising a child is something you are not ready for, adoption can provide you with peace of mind knowing that your child has what they need to be happy and successful. While adoption is undoubtedly a scary prospect, we can help you through the process.
Before choosing adoption, however, it is important to determine why you believe it would be a viable choice for you. It may be because you don’t want an abortion, but aren’t ready to parent. It could be because the child’s father is not reliable. It could be for financial reasons. Whatever the reason, we can help you throughout the process.
There are three main types of adoption: open, semi-open, and closed.
An open adoption allows for regular contact between you, the adoptive parents, and the child. In fact, as part of the adoption process, you will have an opportunity to meet and choose the family that will ultimately adopt your child.
Semi-open adoptions allow for limited contact between the birth parents and the child, as well as with the adoptive parents.
In a closed adoption, there is limited to no contact between the birth parents and the adoptive parents. Closed adoptions do not allow for any contact with the child.
Whatever you ultimately choose, only you know what’s right for you and what you will be comfortable with. If adoption is something you are considering, please contact the Walker Area Pregnancy Support Center today to schedule an appointment.
